Interning for the Department of Communications, Media, and The Arts was a very informative experience that helped me grow in several aspects of journalism.
Below are work examples in social media, web writing, and marketing I completed during my semester as a communications intern.
As an intern for DCMA, I had the opportunity to manage all social media platforms, e.g. Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, SnapChat, Facebook, and LinkedIn, by curating specific captions to cater to each audience that is populated by the social outlet.

TikTok
As an intern, I learned how to create entertaining TikTok's that advertised the University's newspaper and showcased students involved in DCMA.

Twitter
Twitter posts were very tedious since other social platforms carry a longer character amount. After getting the hang of this outlet, I found it easier to get straight to the point with Twitter captions.

Facebook/SnapChat/LinkedIn
Facebook, SnapChat, and LinkedIn usually cater to an audience that is searching for specific information. Since this was my first time using FaceBook and LinkedIn for posting, I am now comfortable to use Facebook Business Suite to create events, and curate captions on both Facebook and LinkedIn.

Graphic Design
Along with managing DCMA's social media platforms, graphic designing was needed for advertising specific events. Canva was a great outlet to complete these projects.

Tabling
As an Intern, I was required to attend several tabling events as a student ambassador to give students insight on the number of programs that are offered within DCMA.
See the photos below of live coverage.

Representing DCMA
Having the opportunity to represent DCMA and learn about the behind the scenes and PR standpoint of a photo shoot opened my eyes to the field I would love to be involved in one day.

ListServ/Marketing List
Along with social media posts and web writing which I'll talk about next, the marketing list was a great way to stay on track with posts that each of us interns had each week. As for ListServs, working through and updating these lists gave me a grasp on data entry.
I was assigned to cross check all students involved in DCMA and helped my fellow interns get a hang of the system as well.

Web Writing
As a communication major with a concentration in journalism, I was very happy to have practice in writing SharkBytes that followed AP style. At first, this task was tricky because of the guidelines that were provided, but I soon got a hang of it.

This semester I worked on a 4-5 minute video showcasing the undergraduate programs located inside DCMA,
and the masters program, Composition, Rhetoric, and Digital Media.

Performance and Visual Arts Wing of the University Center!
